Yinz United Capture Helge Boes Cup for Fall 2014 Season

Defeat Fighting BOBs 1-0 for 1st League Title

Sunday, December 14th, Long Bridge Park Field #1 (Arlington, VA)

Helge Boes Cup Championship:  Yinz United - 1 vs Fighting BOBs - 0

In a tightly contested championship match, #1 seed Yinz United captured their first WPL title with a 1-0 victory in regulation over worthy finalists, #3 seed Fighting BOBs.  It was a tale of two halves on Sunday night as Yinz came out the stronger side and able to control the better chances in the opening stanza.  Their efforts were rewarded in the 20th minute when a Fighting BOB defender handled a ball in the penalty area to earn a penalty kick, which was converted for the deserved lead.  Tight play continued throughout the first half with both teams earning good chances, but the score held through halftime.  Fighting BOBs elevated their game and came out of the second half with a ressurgence to take control of play in search of the equalizer.  Over the second half much of the game was played in Yinz's half of the field as the BOBs pressured hard, but ultimately could not break through the Yinz back four.  When the final whistle blew, Yinz stood on the field as champions of the WPL Helge Boes Cup for the first time to cap off a stellar season which also saw them claim the regular season title based on points.  Congratulations to both teams for an incredible final that was played at level that all in the Washington Premier League can be proud of!!
